Through the compelling stories of women who choose to go outside the hospitals where they practice to give birth, viewers experience the beauty and challenges facing families both at home and in the hospital in a way that hasn’t been seen before.

This past weekend, thousands and thousands of people watched April The Giraffe give birth at the Animal Adventure Park in New York.

Friends and family are invited to join in and support them by walking together and by raising funds.

The financial aid we gather helps Postpartum Progress work to reach more mothers and health care providers with vital tools for bridging the gap in maternal mental health services.

After months of watching and waiting, many of us woke up on a beautiful Saturday morning with the news that active labor was confirmed and that hooves were visible.

Once labor begins, a doula offers massage, counter pressure, breathing techniques, encouragement, position suggestions, reminders to eat and drink, help navigating the medical field, and many other tips and tricks to help achieve a healthy and empowering birth.

A doula does not replace the father or partner, but enhances their support by showing how they could be most helpful, for example, teaching a particular massage technique.

A doula will stay 1-2 hours after the birth to help with early postpartum transition and then meet with the new family within the first week.

When talking with a doula for the first time, go with your gut feeling - either she's the one, or you need to keep looking. That's why the Tallahassee Doula Co-Op created the Doula Speed Dating events so you can get to know the co-op doulas in one evening. Tallahassee Doula Co-Op is grateful to our amazing business partners: Where the Heart Is Midwifery, Honeytree Natural Foods, Tallahassee Lactation Care, Tallahassee Chinese Medicine, Verity Health Center, Captured by Casey birth photography, and Beth Johnson Photography.

We'd also like to thank New Leaf Market Co-op Bannerman Crossings, as well, for hosting us!
